In water, solutions or suspension, these salts are completely free and mobile, and their concentration can be determined by measuring the conductivity of the solution. In soil, peat or other substrate, only part of the salts are dissolved in the soil solution.
The mobility or "activity" of these salts and, accordingly, their availability to plants depends on:
soil moisture;
soil density;
soil temperature.
Since plant nutrients are salt ions, measuring the amount of "active" salt ions gives an immediate indication of the plant root nutrition status.
The principle of measuring the "activity" of salts was developed by prof. Tepe, the former director of the Research Institute of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition in Hessenheim (Germany) and is now widely used as the easiest, fastest and most reliable way to control the plant nutrition process. Measuring probes are made of stainless steel.
Special conditions for the care and storage of probes and the device are not required.
SALT ACTIVITY METER PNT 3000
The latest developments in the field of measuring the "activity" of salts are embodied in the device PNT 3000 (Plant Nutrition Tester). The salt activity meter PNT 3000 determines the content of dissolved salts in soils or substrates, taking into account their main characteristics, such as moisture, temperature and density.
The principle of operation of the device is based on the modern SMD technology used in all 3000 series devices. This technology is considered to be much more reliable and less temperature dependent than all previous ones. The robust housing of the device is protected from ingress of moisture and dust, operation with a single button is simple and convenient. The device is checked and calibrated at the factory; further additional calibrations are not required.
The device with an electrode can be delivered in a cardboard box or in a sturdy aluminum case for transportation and storage. The measuring probe is made of stainless steel and can be supplied in lengths of 250, 500 or 750 mm.
No special care or storage conditions are required for the device. PNT 3000 allows direct measurements of dissolved salts in soils / substrates without preliminary sampling and sample preparation.
